How to Create a New Page in Sites

Summary: This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough for adding new pages to your Tithely Site. Learn how to create custom content, organize page hierarchies, and manage visibility settings to tailor your website to your community's needs.

Before You Begin

  • Draft Mode: By default, if the "Published" box is unchecked, your page is saved as a draft. It will only be visible to logged-in administrators, not the public.

  • Password Protection Warning: While you can password-protect a page to restrict access, attached documents (files) on that page may still be indexed by search engines like Google.

  • Access: You must be logged into the Tithely Sites admin dashboard to create pages.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Initiate a New Page

From your main navigation menu, click on Sites. You can start a new page in one of two ways:

  • Option A (Quick Add): In the left navigation menu under "Quick Add," click + Page.

  • Option B (Content Menu): Select Content in the left menu, click Pages, and then click the Add Page button.

2. Enter Page Details

Once the "New Page" form opens, complete the following fields:

  • Title: Enter the main heading for your page.

  • Subtitle: (Optional) Add a brief line to provide extra context.

  • Associations:

    • Ministries: Select associated ministries if you want this page to appear on a specific ministry's section.

    • Parent Page: Select an existing page to nest this new page underneath it (creating a hierarchy).

  • Images: Upload a featured image or social sharing image for the page.

  • File Downloads: Attach any PDF or document resources visitors might need to download.

3. Adjust Settings & Publish

  • Password Protect: (Optional) Enter a password to lock the page. Only users with the password or logged-in admins can view it.

  • Published:

    • Check the box to make the page live for all visitors.

    • Uncheck the box to keep it hidden (Draft mode).

  • Click the Create Page button to finish.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

  • How does password protection work for visitors? When a visitor enters the correct password, a cookie is saved in their browser. This keeps the page unlocked for them until they clear their cookies. They do not need to re-enter the password every time they refresh the page.

  • Are my files secure on a password-protected page? The page content is hidden behind a password, but uploaded documents (like PDFs) linked on that page can technically still be discovered by search engines. Do not upload highly sensitive personal data (like giving records) to standard site pages.

  • How do I edit the actual content on the page (text, videos)? This process only creates the page shell and settings. To add text, photos, and layout, you need to use Blocks. After creating the page, view it and click the (+) icons to add content blocks.
