How to Add Collections in Sites

Summary: This guide explains how to organize your website content using Collections. Collections serve as top-level categories (like "Ministries") that house specific Programs (like "Youth Ministry"), providing a clear and structured navigation experience for your visitors.

Before You Begin

  • Structure Hierarchy: Understanding the hierarchy is helpful before building:

    • Collection (Top Level): e.g., "Ministries"

    • Program (Sub Level): e.g., "Youth Ministry"

    • Page (Content Level): e.g., "Youth Summer Camp"

  • Permissions: You must be logged into your Tithely Sites admin dashboard to add collections.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log in to your Tithely account and select Sites.

  2. Click on Content in the left-hand navigation menu, then select Collections.

  3. Click the Add Collection button.

  4. Enter the Collection Details:

    • Name: The main title of your category (e.g., "Ministries").

    • Subtitle: (Optional) A brief line providing context.

    • Description: A detailed explanation of what this collection includes.

  5. Configure your Layout Options:

    • Note: These settings control how the "Cards" (which represent the Programs inside this collection) appear on the page.

    • Four Cards Across: Check this to display four items per row instead of the default three.

    • Show Titles: Choose if the card titles should be visible.

    • Show Description: Choose if the description and "View More" link should appear on the cards.

  6. Adjust Settings & Privacy:

    • Password Protect: Enter a password if you want to restrict access to this entire collection (Optional).

    • Placement: Check the box to add a link to this collection in the Footer of your website.

    • Accessibility: Check the box to make the collection Public.

      • Important: If this box is unchecked, the collection will only be visible to logged-in Sites administrators.

  7. Click the Save Collection button.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

  • What is the difference between a Collection and a Program? Think of a Collection as a folder and a Program as a sub-folder. A Collection might be named "Connect," while the Programs inside it would be "Small Groups," "Volunteer," and "Events."

  • Why can't visitors see my new collection? Double-check the Accessibility checkbox in the collection settings. If "Public" is unchecked, the page remains hidden from regular visitors and is only visible to admins.

  • Can I password protect just one part of the collection? The password setting in this menu protects the entire collection. If you need to protect specific pages, you should apply password protection at the individual Page level instead.
