Linking to Another Page, Website or Email Address

Summary: This guide walks you through the simple steps to create clickable links in your Sites text editor, detailing how to hyperlink selected text to internal pages (using relative URLs), external websites (using full URLs), or an email address using the mailto:format. 


Before You Begin

  • You must have the necessary permissions to access and modify your Site.
  • Have the URL (or email address) of the destination ready to copy or type.
  • For internal links, you only need the part of the URL after the domain (e.g., /ministries/childrens-ministry)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1.  Navigate to the page you want to link from.

2.  Highlight the text you'd like to link (e.g., "read more," "click here") within the text editor.

3.  Click the Insert/edit link button found in the text editor toolbar.

4.  Enter your information into the Link URL field in the dialog box. 

  • Internal Link: Paste or type the relative URL (e.g., /about). 
  • External Link: Paste or type the full URL (e.g., google.ca). * Email Link: Use the format mailto:name@yourdomain.com

5.  Click Save.

6.  Press Save Text (or Save Block/Page) to finalize the changes on the page.


Troubleshooting & FAQs

  • Why is the link not working after I saved the text? Ensure you are using the correct format in the Link URL field (Step 4). For external links, you may need to include the http:/ prefix if the browser doesn't add it automatically.
  • Should I type the full URL for a page on my own site? No, for internal links, you only need to grab everything after the .com, .ca, .org, etc. (e.g., /ministries/childrens-ministry). The site automatically directs you correctly.
  • Can I leave the Title field blank? Yes, the title field in the dialog box can be left blank.
