Adding Live Streams to Your App

Summary: This guide provides easy-to-follow steps for seamlessly integrating live streams into your church app, detailing two methods: pulling a stream from your Tithely Site's RSS feed or configuring a stream directly within the App Dashboard using a YouTube or Facebook video link.

Before You Begin

  • You must have Admin access to your App Dashboard.
  • Recommendation: To prevent multiple Livestream tabs, update your existing link rather than creating a new tab each time.
  • The stream's start/end time for video playback is often managed by the source (Tithely Site or YouTube/Facebook), not always the App Dashboard.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Option 1: Add Livestreams Using Your Tithely Site (Recommended)

  1. Login to your App Dashboard and Select the Livestreams tab.
  2. Select Add New.
  3. Enter the following information:
    • Source: Select Tithely Site
    • Livestream Title: Set your desired title.
    • Start Date: Set the date for sorting within the app (determines the "Next Live Stream" time).
  4. Copy the Live Stream link from your Tithely Site and add .rss to the end of the link.
  5. Enter the modified link into the Video Link field. [Important: The Site livestream must be set up with a link to the video, not an iframe.
  6. Select Submit.

Option 2: Add Livestreams to Your Tithely App Only

  1. Login to your App Dashboard and Select the Livestreams tab.
  2. Select Add New.
  3. Enter the following information:
    • Source: Select Tithely App.
    • Timing: Set your Start and End Time. [Chat will initiate/conclude 30 minutes before/after these times.]
    • Stream Type: Decide whether your stream is simulated.
  4. Insert the unique Video Link (from YouTube or Facebook). [Important: Permanent YouTube links won't work; this link must be updated each week.]
  5. Configure Chat Features (Optional):
    • Toggle the Enable chat feature ON or OFF.
    • Search for and add Chat Moderators (must exist in Tithely People).
    • Toggle whether to clear chat history after every session.
  6. Click Save.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

  • Why isn't my Tithely Site Livestream link working? Ensure you added .rss to the end of the link (Step 4) and that the live stream on the Site is set up with a direct link to the video, not an iframe.
  • How often do I update the YouTube/Facebook link (Option 2)? The link must be updated each week after setting up the new live stream on the platform, as permanent links won't work for a true weekly stream.
  • When does the chat feature open? For streams configured in the App Dashboard (Option 2), the chat will initiate 30 minutes before and conclude 30 minutes after the designated start and end times.
