Updating Your Existing Android App

Summary: Learn how to update your existing Android app by retrieving necessary credentials from your previous provider, ensuring a seamless transition for your community without requiring them to download a new app.


Before You Begin

  • Google Play Access: Ensure your Android App is currently located in your organization's Google Play Console/Developer Account.

  • Transfer Required? If the app is not in your account, you must contact your previous provider to have it transferred to you before proceeding.


Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Contact your original app provider or developer.

  2. Request the following security credentials associated with your app:

    • The keystore file

    • The keystore password

    • The certificate alias

    • The certificate password

  3. Email these items to appdeployment@yourgiving.co.

    • Note: Be sure to include your Name and the Name of your Organization in the email body so the deployment team can correctly identify your account.


Troubleshooting & FAQs

  • What if the previous provider won't share this information?

    • Some providers consider this private information and may refuse to share it. In this case, we cannot update the existing app. We will need to submit a separate new app for your Google Play/Android users.

  • Why is this process necessary?

    • Obtaining these keys enables us to submit an update to your current app listing. This allows your users to simply click "Update" on the app they already have installed to see your new content, rather than downloading a completely new app.
