How to Accept Payments on Tithely Forms

Summary: This guide explains how to set up a form to collect payments for event registrations or other costs. By connecting your PayPal account, you can create forms with fixed prices, open donation amounts, or "pay later" options.

Before You Begin

  • PayPal Required: Currently, payments on Forms can only be processed through PayPal

  • Tithely Link Alternative: As an alternative to PayPal, you can add a direct link to your Tithe.ly Giving form inside your main form so members can pay separately. However, we do not recommend this dual-form approach, as requiring users to submit two separate forms often creates a confusing user experience.

  • Form Type: You must select "Registration" as the form type to enable payment features.

  • User Experience: When a user submits the form, they are redirected to PayPal to complete the transaction. Afterward, they are redirected back to a blank form page.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Navigate to the Forms section of your Tithely account and click Create New Form.

  2. Select Registration as the form type. This specific selection enables the payment functionality.

  3. Click on the Payment field in the form builder to specify the cost. You have three options for setting the amount:

    • Fixed Amount: Enter a number (e.g., 10) to require a specific payment amount.

    • User-Entered Amount: Leave the field blank to allow the user to type in their own amount (useful for donations).

    • Pay Later/Optional: Enter 0 to bypass the payment requirement. This allows you to offer a "Pay Later" option alongside other paid options.

    • Note: Input only the number in the amount section. Do not add symbols or text.

  4. Click Go to Settings at the top of the form builder.

  5. Click Show more Options to expand the settings menu.

  6. Scroll to the bottom and enter your PayPal Email Address. This ensures the payments are routed to the correct account.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

  • Can I use a credit card processor other than PayPal for forms? No. At present, payments on Forms can only be accepted through PayPal.

  • My users are confused because the form goes blank after they pay. This is the expected behavior. After completing the transaction on PayPal, the user is redirected back to a blank version of your form. To reduce confusion, we recommend adding a Section Description above the payment area on your form that explains this process (e.g., "You will be redirected to PayPal to complete payment. Once finished, you will return to this page.").

  • Can I add text to the payment amount field? No. Please refrain from adding any text or currency symbols in the amount area. Only input the total numerical payment amount to ensure the form functions correctly.
