Before You Begin
- Activation Required: An Account Owner must complete the initial activation of MinistrySafe on your account before ordering is available.
- Profile Requirements: The applicant must be at least 13 years old and have both an email address and a birthday saved on their Breeze profile.
- US Organizations Only: Background Checks are only supported for United States-based organizations.
- Billing: You are billed on your monthly Tithely invoice only when the Background Check is completed (not when it is ordered). Pricing ranges from $11 to $140 depending on the level.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Navigate to the People tab and select the applicant's profile.
- Click the Order Background Check button. Note: If this button is grayed out, hover over it to see which prerequisite is missing, such as an email address or birthday.
- Select a search level (Levels 1 through 7) based on your organization's needs and click Continue. Clicking a level will expand it to show the included searches.
- Select the applicant's role (Current or Prospective; Staff or Volunteer), check if they work with children or youth, and click Continue.
- Review the order details and click Place Order.(The applicant will instantly receive an email with a secure link to start their background check form. The link is valid for 14 days).
- Track the applicant's progress using the View MinistrySafe profile status card that appears on their profile.
- Click Complete on the status card once the check is finished. This will open the official Background Screening Report in a new tab for your review.

Troubleshooting & FAQs
- Why is the Order Background Check button disabled? If the person is missing a required email address or a birthdate on their profile, the button will not be clickable. Hover over the disabled button to read the tooltip explaining the specific missing requirement.
- What happens if the applicant doesn't finish the application? The secure link emailed to the applicant expires 14 days after it is sent. The status card on their profile will show "Awaiting applicant" until they complete it. If the link expires, they will need to contact you (the administrator) for a new one.
- How do I know which screening level to choose? The appropriate screening level is based on the applicant's role. For positions with unsupervised access to vulnerable individuals, a more comprehensive screening is highly recommended.
