Summary: If your church or organization has changed its name, you need to update it across several specific areas in Tithely to ensure consistency. This guide walks you through updating your name in Organization Settings, Locations, Bank Statements, Donation Emails, and Giving Forms, as well as how to submit legal name change documentation.
Before You Begin
Permissions: You must be an Account Owner, Admin, or a Limited Access user with permission to access the Giving product.
Legal Name Changes: If your legal entity name has changed (affecting your EIN/Tax ID), you cannot simply change it in the settings. You must submit official paperwork to our team (see Step 6).
Scope: Updating the name in one area (like Settings) does not automatically update it in others (like Receipts). Please follow all steps below to ensure a complete update.
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Update your Organization Settings.
Click the Global Settings icon (gear) in the top-right corner.
Select My Organization and then Organization Settings.

Click Save Changes.
-
Update your Location Name.
From the same My Organization menu, click on Locations.

Note: This update will automatically reflect on Giving Forms and the Mobile App if they use this location name.
-
Update your Statement Descriptor.

Update the Statement Descriptor field. This is the name donors will see on their bank statements.
Click Save Changes.

Click Save Changes.
-
Submit Legal Name Change Documentation (If Applicable).
If your legal organization name has changed (e.g., updated IRS paperwork), the Account Owner must email priority@tithe.ly.

Include the following in your email:
The new EIN paperwork reflecting the updated name.
The Primary Admin’s name and email address.
Your Former Organization Name and the New Name.
Any additional changes to address, phone number, or website.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
I changed my name in settings, but donors still see the old name on their bank statement. You likely missed Step 3. The "Statement Descriptor" is managed separately from your general organization name. Please navigate to Giving > Settings > Deposit & Statement Settings to update what appears on credit card statements.
Can I just email support to change my name everywhere? For display names (steps 1-5), you have full control to update these yourself instantly in the dashboard. Support only needs to be involved if there is a legal change to your tax entity/EIN (Step 6).
